Wisdom – Why, from where and how?

*This post is extracted from the new Symphony Of Heaven Blog due to people still visiting here. Please visit and subscribe to the new Blog.*

Wisdom is not to enable us to live independent of God. Wisdom is what enables us to understand the plan of God and partner with Him in executing it. We are never good enough to do it all on our own and never too bad to not be able to partner with God. Wisdom is what connects our minds to His.

I shared that on our Facebook & Twitter pages a few days ago. It made me think and study more on wisdom and specifically the life of Solomon.

God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. (1 Kings 4:29)

That verse has always been an inspiring verse for me. In-fact, ever since I read that verse, wisdom and understanding has been in my top list of prayer points.

Why is wisdom important?

2 reasons why wisdom is important :

1. Wisdom is required to finish your divine assignment.

After David died Solomon became King over Israel and while he was at a place called Gibeon the Lord appeared to him in a dream during the night. “God said; ‘Ask! What shall I give you?‘” (I Kings 3:5). It seems more like a dream right? The maker of everything we see, hear, know and more asking what you want.

Solomon’s answer qualifies as one of the greatest prayers in the Bible.” Here is what he prayed for: “Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people, that I may discern between good and evil. For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?” (I Kings 3:9). Solomon was asking for wisdom to be a good king.

Solomon needed wisdom to be a successful king. Wisdom is what makes the difference in your pursuit of your destiny. Wisdom and understanding from God enables us to release an expression of creativity, leadership and excellence that gives God glory.

2. Wisdom as an answer to prayer.

God answers a lot of prayers by giving us the wisdom to handle what we need Him to do for us. If you don’t see God do it all for you, use the wisdom and understanding that He gives you.

I read this excerpt today of a Billy Graham interview :

“But I’ve discovered that God sometimes answers our prayers in a fourth way: By showing us how to solve the problem. In other words, sometimes we become the answer to our own prayers! We always want God to solve our problems instantly, but sometimes God wants us to deal with them on our own, as he gives us wisdom.”

Where does Wisdom come from?

“So God said to him(Solomon), “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.” (1 Kings 3:11-12)

If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (James 1:5)

For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. (Proverbs 2:6)

People claim that wisdom is gained by experience and great knowledge etc. The above verses make it very clear that wisdom comes from God and wisdom that God gives cannot be bought or earned from anything else.

Who gets wisdom?

Solomon’s prayer was a great one because his heart was right when he prayed it. I believe wisdom is a result of where your heart is.

“To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.” (Ecclesiastes 2:26)

God gives wisdom when we live to please Him. Our ultimate goal in life should be to hear that God is pleased with the way we lived and loved. Throughout the bible, there are many verses that speaks about what pleases God. Here are some of them :

  • God is pleased with you when you do what you know is right(See 1 Peter 2:19),
  • Faith pleases God. (See Hebrews 11:6)
  • Walk as children of light. (See Ephesians 5:8-10)

Ultimately, the ability to please God is birthed by His work in our lives. Our willingness to obey and submit to what God is doing in and through us is what creates a pure heart and a renewed mind.

What is your understanding of Wisdom from God?

How was wisdom from God empowered you to make a decision?

The 2 risky “IF’s”

VISIT THE NEW SYMPHONY OF HEAVEN BLOG

I wrote this post a few months ago but did not share for some reason. Yesterday at a conference, Jonathan David Helser touched on the same topic and I was reminded of this post and I had to share it. So here are the 2 “IF’s” we need to watch out for :

“Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil. After fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.” Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.” Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written: “He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.” Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.” Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.” (Matthew 4)

From the above passage, lets look at two “IF’s” mentioned there :

1. “IF you are the son of God” :

The enemy’s biggest weapon against us is to question our identity. When we start doubting our identity, we slowly give away control of our lives. Identity plays a huge role in our world. Jobs, visas, lifestyle..everything is altered by a person’s identity. Identity carries power. Our Identity as children of God is our biggest value.

Jesus was asked to turn stones into bread if He was the son of God. There is nothing we need to do to prove our identity because we did not earn our identity. We received our identity as a gift of grace. You are unshakable when you do not doubt your identity.

Have you had moments when you’ve doubted your identity as a child of God?

2. “IF you will bow down and worship” :

Be careful what you say yes to. And even more careful when you say yes for a reward. Our life is a puzzle of choices. The enemy will place rewards in front of us to pull us into His agenda for our lives. Jesus wasn’t moved by the rewards the enemy offered. We need to be constantly conscious about living a lifestyle of worship. Jesus is the only one who deserves our worship.

I pray that you would hold on to your unshakable identity as a child of God and all your worship will be to the One who is worthy.

One thing that is needed.

The one thing that will not be taken away from you.

And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
– Luke 10:41-42

Most of you know the above story of Martha being busy serving Jesus and Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus and hearing His word. When Martha told Jesus about Mary not helping her, Jesus responds saying Mary has chosen the “one thing that is needed” and the “one thing that will not be taken away from her”.

So, What did Mary have that Martha needed? What was the “good part” Mary chose which will remain hers forever?

Mary made a conscious decision between two alternatives : To either be busy serving or listen to Jesus. I dont know what one of us would have done in that situation, but this story helps us to understand the priorities in the kingdom of God.

Do now allow what you do to stop you from being who you are. There is never anything more important than sitting in God’s presence and being His delight. That is the one constant in life. Everything begins and ends there. That is where your identity is found and will remain with you forever.

This Easter, make a decision to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of your life. Do not allow distractions to stop you from making this your priority everyday. We can find many good things to do, but doing the right thing is what will make the difference in our lives. What God wants is you and your attention. Nothing else is significant at the cost of sitting at the feet of Jesus.

I pray that this Easter season for you and your family is filled a greater revelation of God’s love for you and your identity as children of God.

Joel.

God can or He will?

You know God can. Do you believe He will

The difference between both can be found only in action. There are many who know God can heal, but a few who expectedly go to Him for healing when they are sick.

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” (Matthew 21:22)

We see in scripture that Abraham ‘believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness”. It is theHe will faith that moves God. Pray like God will answer your prayer, live like God is enough for everything.

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.(James 2:17)

‘God can’ way of believing does not lead you to action, but a ‘God will’ way of believing is faith accompanied by action. Radical faith always involves risk in the natural.

Knowing ‘God can’ is a good start but does not change your life in anyway, but believing ‘God will’ can have an impact on everything you do. Your breakthrough could be just a ‘change in perception’ away.

  • Do not allow unanswered prayers pull you down from a ‘God will’ way of believing to ‘God can’.
  • While praying, say : “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
  • Thank God in advance for what you believe and like Peter stepped out of the boat, walk into your answer.
  • Jesus was surprised by the centurion’s faith, who said ” just say the word, and my servant will be healed”. What is it like to surprise God with our faith?

What is ‘believing’ according to you?
Have you been in situations where you know God can help you but you are not sure if He will?

What Sin Does..

We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. When he died, he died once to break the power of sin.
– Romans 6:6-10

The strength of sin is in what it does to you after a sinful act. Sin is intended to destroy you by threatening to separate you from God the father.

I have been and I know many people who are ashamed to turn to God after they have done something wrong.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8)

The bible says, it is by grace we have been saved and not because of who we are and what we have done. So if what we have done did not save us, what we do now cannot separate us. Do not believe the lie that we need to live clean first and then only we can approach God. The truth is you can live free from sin only by the grace of God and by being in constant communion with Him.

Like most people who teach of grace necessarily repeat, “Grace is no license to sin”, but grace is required to live a life that is free from the power of sin.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Do not allow anything to separate you from God. Run to God when you fall and be quick to repent. Nothing you do can separate you from the love of God. Embrace the grace of God to break the power of sin.

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

Share your thoughts : Have you been fighting sin on your own strength? What do you do to break sinful habits?

Blessings,

Joel.

“I am fine”, the most told lie in the world?

“I am fine”, the most told lie in the world?

How often have you been in the lowest valleys and yet responded saying you’re well?

Sometimes, our ability to hide emotions can give the biggest actors a run for their money.  In faith, you are declaring you are well? Thats good, but you may still need help!

Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfil the law of Christ.(Galatians 6:2)

Is it ok to say you’re not alright? :

I love david because of his honesty. He was so open about every emotion he went through. I once sat and read about 30 Psalms continuously and it was nothing short of an emotion ride.

We all make mistakes. We all have valleys and mountains. God has placed people around us to be our motivation system. We are not designed to live in isolation. We were created for relationships. First, with God and then with the people around us. The more you isolate yourself, the more the chances are of you going further down in that valley.

Could it be true that God is sending people into your life to help you and you are busy calling out to God?

Well, you may say why would someone care about my problems, trust me there are many people who care. I would not have been where I am today if it wasn’t for the people who stood with me during the tough times.

Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another(Proverbs 27:17)

  • You don’t need to tell the whole world your problems but identify the right people God has placed around you to build you. Remember God uses people.
  • Not every person is a brutus. There are people you can trust and who are willing to stand with you no matter what.
  • The person who weeps with you in tragedy will be there to rejoice with you in your success.

So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.(1 Thessalonians 5:11)

Blessings,

Joel.

Courage is your choice!

It is easy to stay down and defeated, but it takes courage to rise above any situation. Courage is often a choice. Choose to rise above your struggles!

Use the below scriptures to declare over your life and circumstances.

I am strong, courageous, I hold my peace, Im not dismayed. (2 Chronicles 32:7)

I am not afraid of their faces, for You are with me to deliver me. (Jeremiah 1:8)

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God,   the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint,   and to him who has no might he increases strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;   they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary;   they shall walk and not faint.(Isaiah 40:28-31 )

I have to let go, and let God do it. For by strength, I cannot prevail. (1 Samuel 2:9)

The battle is not mine, but the Lord’s (2 Chronicles 20: 12-17)

Fear not, for I am with you;  be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you,  I will uphold you with my righteous right hand (Isaiah 41:10 )

I will stand still and see the salvation of the Lord. (2 Chronicles 20: 12-17)

For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you. (Isaiah 41:13)

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33)

I can do all things through Him who strengthens me.(Philippians 4:13 )

Jesus overcame all your battles the day he gave His life on the cross. What you’re facing is temporary and God can use it to your advantage. Choose courage, peace, strength and be encouraged. He will never leave you nor forsake you. God wants to show Himself strong on your behalf. Surrender to Him today and let the peace that He gives you take over.
