One thing that is needed.

The one thing that will not be taken away from you.

And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
– Luke 10:41-42

Most of you know the above story of Martha being busy serving Jesus and Mary sitting at the feet of Jesus and hearing His word. When Martha told Jesus about Mary not helping her, Jesus responds saying Mary has chosen the “one thing that is needed” and the “one thing that will not be taken away from her”.

So, What did Mary have that Martha needed? What was the “good part” Mary chose which will remain hers forever?

Mary made a conscious decision between two alternatives : To either be busy serving or listen to Jesus. I dont know what one of us would have done in that situation, but this story helps us to understand the priorities in the kingdom of God.

Do now allow what you do to stop you from being who you are. There is never anything more important than sitting in God’s presence and being His delight. That is the one constant in life. Everything begins and ends there. That is where your identity is found and will remain with you forever.

This Easter, make a decision to dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of your life. Do not allow distractions to stop you from making this your priority everyday. We can find many good things to do, but doing the right thing is what will make the difference in our lives. What God wants is you and your attention. Nothing else is significant at the cost of sitting at the feet of Jesus.

I pray that this Easter season for you and your family is filled a greater revelation of God’s love for you and your identity as children of God.

Joel.

God can or He will?

You know God can. Do you believe He will

The difference between both can be found only in action. There are many who know God can heal, but a few who expectedly go to Him for healing when they are sick.

If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.” (Matthew 21:22)

We see in scripture that Abraham ‘believed God and it was counted to him as righteousness”. It is theHe will faith that moves God. Pray like God will answer your prayer, live like God is enough for everything.

In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.(James 2:17)

‘God can’ way of believing does not lead you to action, but a ‘God will’ way of believing is faith accompanied by action. Radical faith always involves risk in the natural.

Knowing ‘God can’ is a good start but does not change your life in anyway, but believing ‘God will’ can have an impact on everything you do. Your breakthrough could be just a ‘change in perception’ away.

  • Do not allow unanswered prayers pull you down from a ‘God will’ way of believing to ‘God can’.
  • While praying, say : “And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:19)
  • Thank God in advance for what you believe and like Peter stepped out of the boat, walk into your answer.
  • Jesus was surprised by the centurion’s faith, who said ” just say the word, and my servant will be healed”. What is it like to surprise God with our faith?

What is ‘believing’ according to you?
Have you been in situations where you know God can help you but you are not sure if He will?

What Sin Does..

We are no longer slaves to sin. For when we died with Christ we were set free from the power of sin. And since we died with Christ, we know we will also live with him. We are sure of this because Christ was raised from the dead, and he will never die again. Death no longer has any power over him. When he died, he died once to break the power of sin.
– Romans 6:6-10

The strength of sin is in what it does to you after a sinful act. Sin is intended to destroy you by threatening to separate you from God the father.

I have been and I know many people who are ashamed to turn to God after they have done something wrong.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith–and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8)

The bible says, it is by grace we have been saved and not because of who we are and what we have done. So if what we have done did not save us, what we do now cannot separate us. Do not believe the lie that we need to live clean first and then only we can approach God. The truth is you can live free from sin only by the grace of God and by being in constant communion with Him.

Like most people who teach of grace necessarily repeat, “Grace is no license to sin”, but grace is required to live a life that is free from the power of sin.

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons,[a] neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39)

Do not allow anything to separate you from God. Run to God when you fall and be quick to repent. Nothing you do can separate you from the love of God. Embrace the grace of God to break the power of sin.

“Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” (Hebrews 4:16)

Share your thoughts : Have you been fighting sin on your own strength? What do you do to break sinful habits?

Blessings,

Joel.

God’s will in His time

Image

Most of us at some point have prayed for God’s will to be done in our life. We carry on with life and sometimes wonder what does God’s will look like or if such a thing even exist?

Often understanding God’s timing is harder than knowing His will. The instant world we live in has reduced our capacity to exercise patience and perseverance. Instant coffee, Instant Messaging and now we look for instant answers. In this pursuit, we fail to realise that God’s will is always accompanied by His timing.

While God longs to release blessings on you, He will not give you the blessing that can harm you. Looking back I know many of the unanswered prayers in my life was only because I wasn’t ready for the answer. I would’ve failed to live faithfully in that blessing at that time.

Love and Forgiveness

Love and Forgiveness

Lately, I have been thinking about love, forgiveness, people, choices and why bad things happen to good people. I think they’re all very important subjects, and I will probably choose each one of them to talk about, but right now I just want to focus on love and what love really is.

I have been dealing with a lot of people who hurt me and took my friendship for granted. In matter fact, I have come to believe that most friends in our lives are meant to be our friends just for certain seasons. We always say that childhood friends will always be our friends forever and they are, but then you end up meeting with them on the street, at the coffee shop and you just exchange a few random words as if you barely know each other. Truth is that in time, we change, we either become the kind of people we wish to be when we were children or we allow our dreams to be taken away from us and we end up in places doing things we don’t love with people we don’t really like.

So then the question arises: How can we still love well people we haven’t seen in ages or people that hurt us, that disappointed us and did us wrong? What does it even mean to love well?

There is this one verse that comes to mind that’s in 1 Peter 4:8 and it says, “Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers”.  What does that even mean? Well..love covers, I think it means love forgives and yet how can one forgive without being forgiven first?

Yes, we go through life and make everyday choices, to wake up, take a shower, to do good things, to be nice to people and yet we still have to learn so many things. “Forgive but not forget” some people might say, but is that true forgiveness, the one kind Jesus thought us?!  Indeed its not our place to fix people, we can show them what they do wrong and pray for them, but it’s only God who can restore a person. Restoring, yes, that is the key word I was looking for, because forgiveness restores the standard. Jesus thought us this principle and yet, sometimes we struggle with doing the same. We say it all day long, “ I want to be like Jesus” but yet we find ourselves in the midst of situations that require our full focus and attention and our full forgiveness.

If love covers, and forgiveness restores, then how come we still find ourselves making the wrong choices?! I think that our choices are like little spots on the path of our destinies. We are all destined to reign but how does one reign well without forgiving just like Jesus and loving well?

Loving well also means loving on purpose. Stepping outside of our comfort zones each day, making the choice to stop for the one, every time. But then the question is : “ How to love on purpose those who hurt us?” well..we can either remain stuck in our issues or make the choice to move forward .

Truth is that we all make mistakes, but what are our goals in life really? To remain stuck in anger and bitterness towards those who did us wrong or make one step forward and forgive and ask God for full restoration of people and relationships. We should only look at Jesus, He is our highest standard and if His love covers all, then ours should do the same.

If we are still talking about life goals, let me share some of my own, in the hope you will find yours and stick to them. One of my goals in life is to never uncover that which was already covered. Don’t stick the knife in the place that once hurt, unless that place has no scar what so ever. I also want to love people so much that when they are talking to me, they encounter their Father and leave changed. I know it’s a high goal but I always ask for wisdom to discern well and steward well, that which was given to me. Ahh! Yes, loving well requires sacrifice and sacrifice is always hard work. What will you choose then?!

What is your disposition when people do you wrong? Is it like Jesus’? How do you act when the storms of life almost drawn you? Do you act like Jesus? How well do you choose to love? Do you love like Jesus?

Thank you for reading these thoughts.

Lory T.

OT#3 – Peace attracts peace and worry attracts worry.

The easiest thing you can do is find everything that is wrong, but it takes some intentional effort to drill into the good. I don’t know how, but our minds are just attracted to the wrong unless we intentionally divert it to see the good.

Most of our complaints and issues can fade away if we take time to remind ourselves of the good in our lives. The most important battle you can win is the battle in your mind – to replace everything that is not of God.

God has promised us peace beyond understanding, but we must be willing to give-up our need for understanding to be able to partake of that peace. Do you wholeheartedly trust God with your life even when you don’t know whats going on?

For as he thinks in his heart, so is he. (Proverbs 23:7)
If you are always thinking of everything that is wrong and negative, don’t be surprised if the things that are wrong in your life keeps multiplying. Peace attracts peace and worry attracts worry.

Instead of dwelling on everything that is wrong, thank God for everything that is good. When you are doing that, it is not just you being positive, but it is also an expression of your faith. It is you saying God has been faithful. It is an invitation for God to work in your weaknesses and struggles.

OT#2 – Facing the giants!

Bored of a monotonous ‘playing-it-safe’ life? Here’s how you can add some adventure to it :

You were born to face the giants. Whether you realise or not, facing impossibilities is your faith workout and without faith, you cannot please God. Impossible is not a word in the dictionary of heaven and some of the greatest revelations about God is learned through breakthroughs and miracles.

God has given you enough grace to win every battle you need to face. Give God opportunities to prove Himself strong on your behalf.

If you live cautiously, your friends will call you wise. You just won’t move many mountains – Bill Johnson.

Ah Lord GOD! Behold, You have made the heavens and the earth by Your great power and by Your outstretched arm! Nothing is too difficult for You” (Jeremiah 32:17 NASB).

If God was able to create the heavens and the earth with His spoken Word, could there possibly be anything that is too hard for Him to handle?
