10000 Reasons

This is a Matt Redman devotional. It really blessed me and I thought I should share it here. So, here we go :

10,000 Reasons

“For all Your goodness I will keep on singing…Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find.”

A music producer once commented that in the world of pop you can only really write four kinds of song: “I love you”, “I hate you”, “Go away” and “Come back”! That’s an amusing yet astute observation. But gladly, when it comes to writing songs towards the God of all eternity, we have a whole different color palate to work with. When I talk about the reasons for God’s worth and say there are ‘ten thousand reasons for my heart to find’ that’s actually the huge, poetic understatement. The reasons for the praise of God are so wide and wonderful that we could sing from now until forever and never run out of ideas as to why He is quite so worthy.

Think about the world of nature for a moment. As of now, scientists have described over 1.7 million species of animal, plant and algae on earth. Mammals make up one of the smallest groups-with less than 6000 members known. For insects on the other hand, we’re aware of about 1 million different species. And in all categories, there are more species becoming known every year. In fact, in some places like the depths of the ocean we’ve hardly even begun to explore, and there are countless more species to find and identify. But let’s stick for a moment to those 1.7 million species we know of so far. I think we could safely say that every kind of plant, animal or other living thing created by God is a reason for His praise.

So we’ve hardly begun and we’ve found 1.7 million reasons why we might respond to Him. Next, look up at the stars-scientists are now saying there are more stars in the known universe than there are grains of sands on all of the world’s beaches and deserts. So, right there we have billions and billions more reasons to utter up an offering of praise. Next, we look to our own lives-the countless blessings weaved into our everyday existences, and the miracle of life itself. We think about families and social circles, and provision in our lives. And we praise, and praise, and praise again. Perhaps that’s why at the end of Psalm 30 the worshippers says:

“…my heart may sing to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give you thanks forever.” (Psalm 30:12)

The psalmist knows of a multitude of reasons why we should worship God. And he knows of not one reason why he should refrain from doing so. He can’t think of a single motive why he should remain silent. The same must be true for our own lives. The worship of Jesus should be vibrant, creative, and colorful as we unfold our hearts in praise. There will be an eternity of reasons to adore and revere Him.

Transformed in Love

A post after a long time! Apologies, if you visited the blog and I had nothing new. Its been a month of transitions but I’m back!

Today’s post is called “transformed in love”. Lets say there are 3 zones you can live in – Black, Grey, White.

Black is a lifestyle spinning out of control in sin and Grey is a lifestyle where you are constantly attempting to avoid sin. I have been and I know a lot of people who are on the grey zone most of the time.

Now, white is a zone where you have no license to sin as well, but what makes it different is the approach. Love leads the white zone whereas fear leads the grey zone. I will explain!

What you give the most importance in your life, will become the reality in your life. If you are always talking about the difficulties you have been through, don’t be surprised if you’re hit with more difficulties and problems. If you always find yourself battling the same temptation or sin, may be the solution is not to battle it out.

1 John 4:18 “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear: because fear has to do with punishment. He that fears is not made perfect in love.

The goal for a Christian is to walk out of the black, to the grey and into the white.

During one evening of worship at my church home group, I felt God telling me more than my prayers, more than any of my spiritual activities, He is looking for lovers. Yes, people who are deeply in love with God for who He is. And He began to speak to me through 1 John 4, an amazing chapter on love.

Matthew 22:36-40  “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” Jesus replied: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Ever wondered why the greatest commandment is “Love your God with all your heart”? If you are a lover of God, you will see your prayers, desires and activities change. When you are in love with God, you are transformed. And love has the power to transform your family, colleagues, and everyone around you, even the biggest of sinners. I have lived my life trying to avoid sin and I have failed until I truly received the love of God and let Him transform me.

Lift God’s love and grace higher than your fear of sin / difficulty / problems. White is a zone of reconciliation and not condemnation. The enemy’s biggest weapon against you is accusations. He will start condemning you for the way you think, the way you speak and live. And he is stronger when he uses your own mind to accuse you. Be very careful before you judge yourself. His main tactic is mind games. Condemnation will stop you from worshipping. Remind yourself God loves you the way you are. The reason God sent his son to die for you is not to rule over you, but because He loved you.

The best way to receive God’s love is to stop trying to earn it.

Focus your energy towards worship, word and anything that lifts Jesus high and you will see yourself living in complete freedom.

I hope you are blessed by this post. I pray you receive God’s love and experience your life being transformed in it.

Blessings,

Joel.
